From 1 July 2026, the European Union introduced a temporary customs duty on low value parcels (up to €150) imported from countries outside the EU, including the Faroe Islands.
This replaces the duty exemption that applied until 30 June 2026. Orders over €150 are subject to the normal EU Common Customs Tariff as before.
The temporary customs duty is a flat fee of €3 per shipment and will apply until 1 July 2028, after which standard customs duties will apply based on the type of goods.
What This Means for Your Order
For orders shipped to EU member states, we are now required to collect (in addition to the EU import VAT) the new €3 EU customs duty.
These charges are collected at the time of purchase and declared and paid by Posta Faroe Islands as part of the EU import process.
Stamp Orders
For stamp orders, the customs duty will normally be €3 per shipment. As Posta Faroe Islands is required to complete the import registration and customs clearance on your behalf, a €5 handling fee also applies.
Total charge for most stamp shipments: €8 (€3 customs duty + €5 handling fee).
Please note that some EU countries may also charge additional national handling or processing fees. These are set by local postal or customs authorities and are separate from the charges collected by Posta Faroe Islands.
Questions?
We understand these changes represent an additional cost for our customers. The customs duty is required under EU legislation and is not set or retained by Posta Faroe Islands. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
